Partial: no definition of the phrase, but its source says what the sacrifice is offered for. Trent, Ses. XXII, cap. 2, es/Latin (Ayala OCR): «Quare non solum pro fidelium vivorum peccatis, poenis, satisfactionibus et aliis necessitatibus, sed et pro defunctis in Christo, nondum ad plenum purgatis, rite, juxta Apostolorum traditionem, offertur»; en: "Wherefore, not only for the sins, punishments, satisfactions, and other necessities of the faithful who are living, but also for those who are departed in Christ, and who are not as yet fully purified, is it rightly offered, agreeably to a tradition of the Apostles" — Trento-Waterworth, Ses. XXII, ch. 2. CEC 1371 cites it (DS 1743).

Las tradiciones ortodoxa, luterana, reformada y bautista no lo definen oficialmente en sus textos.
