What it decided

On 3 July 529 fourteen bishops approved 25 canons on grace: even the beginning of faith (initium fidei) is a gift of grace and not the fruit of fallen free will; grace precedes every good work. At the same time it anathematized the idea that God predestines anyone to evil. Its canons were lost around the 10th century and recovered and published in 1543.

Who recognises it

None (local Gallic synod); approved by Pope Boniface II (531), which gave it great authority in the Catholic Church. Many Protestants cite it approvingly.
