Who he was
A monk and theologian who argued that Christ has two wills, divine and human, against the monothelitism backed by the imperial court. He was tried in Constantinople and mutilated (tongue and right hand) before dying in exile in 662; the Third Council of Constantinople (680–681) vindicated his position.
