Who he was
A teacher in Alexandria and later Caesarea in Palestine, he was the most prolific biblical exegete of the early Church and compiled the Hexapla, a comparative edition of the Old Testament. He died after torture suffered in the Decian persecution; some views attributed to him and his followers were condemned in the sixth century.
