Who he was
Bishop of Ravenna, then seat of the Western imperial court, from c. 433. His brief, polished sermons, preserved in an eighth-century collection, earned him the name "Chrysologus" (golden word); he wrote to Eutyches urging him to defer to the bishop of Rome.
