Who he was
A native of Asia Minor who heard Polycarp in his youth, he became presbyter and then bishop of Lyon after the persecution of 177. His Against Heresies refutes Gnostic systems by appealing to Scripture, the rule of faith and the succession of bishops in the apostolic churches.
