Who he was
Bishop of Cyrrhus, exegete and historian of the Antiochene tradition, who criticized Cyril's anathemas and initially defended Nestorius. Deposed in 449, he was restored at Chalcedon (451) after anathematizing Nestorius; some of his writings against Cyril were condemned in 553 (the "Three Chapters").
