Who he was
An Alexandrian layman blind from childhood who, according to tradition, headed the catechetical school of Alexandria and taught Jerome and Rufinus. A defender of the Nicene creed, his works were condemned with those of Origen and Evagrius in 553, and many were lost until the discovery of the Tura papyri in 1941.
